a great tale and it's amazing to know that so much of it is from firsthand accounts from people who were living it. The excerpts from letters and news articles were weaved seamlessly through-out the book. the descriptions were so well done, I could feel and smell the fair and the "making of". I enjoyed this book.

This is a book of interwoven tales including the story of the World's Fair in Chicago and the story of a horrific serial killer, H. H. Holmes. I found the historical facts fascinating, how the fair was conceived, all the troubles and setbacks the organizers experienced, the many new products and inventions that were brought to light by the fair, it was all very interesting. The twisted tale of Holmes was also compelling, but even more so was the story of the detective who spent months gathering

I have to say I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. I was interested in reading about H.H. Holmes but the detail on Burnham, and the trials of building the fair was so enjoyable. I am certain to move on to Mr Larson, other books as this was just so well written .
This book was more boring than I would have liked. It felt like the world's fair and the story of HH Holmes just didn't fit together. Holmes is a fascinating "character" and I guess the true crime side of me wanted more on him.
