This book was much better as an adult than my vague memory of it as a child. The writing is polished and refined: every word has its place and has its purpose. The race relations in the book seem much more complex than my childhood memory of them: Atticus seems more forced into the noble lawyer position than he did the first time around (ie: not the noble non-racist in racist times, but a man without a choice who makes the best of things).
