What's that phrase- this book gave me the feels. Picked it up because of course everybody has read it by now and it's going to be turned into a movie, and I started it on the plane ride up to Seattle. One minute I'm crying and the next minute I'm LOL, and I just wanted to tell the person sitting next to me on the plane "This book is so good!" by way of explanation. A Man Called by Frederik Backman started off with a persnickety curmudgeon who readers grew to 'ove.' Told through the protagonist's narrative, readers realize that Ove has being suffering, losing everyone he loved. Despite holding people at an arms length, they fight their way into his life and end up saving his own.

When I first finished this book, I did g really have strong feelings one way or another. I just didn’t care about the characters at all. After discussing the book at a book club meeting, however, my thoughts changed. After that I really disliked some of the choices that the author made. I know this book is beloved, but for me it missed the mark.

I first thought this would be a 4/5 but I could not get the writer, the language, the characters, the story OUT of my mind [in a good way]. I love literary experiences like that. I listened to this book. Now I want to read it to savor the words. This is my first book by this author. Who thought a book with a grumpy old man would be *such* a treat! Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
