Wow, this was good. It's the sort of book that is intimidating due to the page count, but it goes quickly. I was so obsessed with Claire and Jamie that if the book was any shorter, I would have felt cheated.

I'm not usually a lover of romance, but this book comes at it from such a unique point of view: Claire Beauchamp stumbles through some sort of gateway in time leading her from 1945 to 1743, where her training as a nurse gives her near magical powers in the eyes of the people. Her love affair with the Scot, James Fraser, is done well enough that it isn't treacly. I think I've just been inducted into the Outlander fan cult.

Just wonderful. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Parts of the story are very upsetting but the author handled them well, considering.
