Well, now I can say I read this book. I have to be frank....the writing is fantastic....I have to be frank again....this book pissed me off.....3/4s of it was set up, set up, set up....investigation by the police, questions...background...and I was thinking...C'MON!!!!!! Get on with the story already! This book… another one, of which I unfortunately saw the movie a few years ago before reading the book now.

4.3 Stars from me, but I had to round it down since Goodreads still hasn't given us the Half Star rating option.

Up until page 400 or 450(?) I was about to make this a huge DNF, but something deep inside of me said, go on Girl! Read…!

I don't know about this book, I didn't love it. But I rarely love any book that follows a ton of hype. I should really learn to stay away from them. :)

I've always admired authors who write mystery thrillers. Fitting in all the little details that someone will catch on to if they're reading closely, but they're likely to miss until they all add up in the end. Flynn is a master of this. I'm not even sure where to begin with my thoughts. I've been participating in a Q&A on this, a "answer questions as you read" kind of thing. My feelings for the people in this book have been all over the place. It's so hard to really review this book without giving things away. I admit I was sucked into the suspense, the drama, the wondering how much of what I was reading was true (it's written by two very opposing perspectives and I really liked that aspect). My feelings for the people in this book have been all over the place. It's so hard to really review this book without giving things away. I've read so many "I hated the ending" rants and I can see why. This book has stayed with my thoughts for days now. I keep thinking... was the ending a deus ex machina? I'm just not sure. It feels like it when I think of certain things. Felt like the author couldn't come up with a clever way out of the clever traps she set for herself so bam, insert some outrageous scenario to the rescue. As far as the very last few pages, UGH! I can only think of one innocent victim in all of this and if you've read the book you should know to whom I refer. That is what stuck with me as I closed the book. WTF. Ugh. Seriously.

The characters are two of the worst people I've ever met. He was spineless, she was a sociopath. It really isn't so much that Nick was a horrible person, but good grief, I wanted to throttle him because of how dumb he could be about some things. It was crazy being in their heads. Sometimes it was just so absurd, I had to laugh. Honestly, I was floored when the final clue of Amy's anniversary gift was revealed. (view spoiler)

I liked the writing itself, I found the author to be pretty talented at some of the phrases she used, scenarios she set. I simply LOVED the Ellen Abbott character! She had me rolling with laughter, especially considering she was basically inspired by Nancy Grace. HILARIOUS stuff as I read her description and kept picturing Nancy Grace. Gave me giggle fits. The first third of this book, I wasn't sure I was going to finish it and I was wondering what all the hype was and why it has been on the best seller list forever as I was getting frustrated by the alternate chapter changes from present time with the husband and then past with the wife who is missing (I typically find that sort of construction contrived).
