A rollicking Bollywood/Melville-ish adventure. Love, love, love it. Romance, pirates, the Indian caste system, the sins of British imperialism. Narration was extraordinary and made the confusing lingo fun and not frustrating (reading might make it a different story, though). It's part one of a trilogy, too. More fun ahead!

Très bon roman se passant dans les années 1850, au moment de la fin de l'esclavage et de la montée de l'esclavage économique, sur fond de commerce massif d'opium vers la chine orchestré par la Compagnie Anglaise des Indes Orientales. Une dizaine de personnages très vivants vont se retrouver au départ de l'Iris, un ancien voilier de la traite des esclaves, transformé pour participer au commerce des coolies vers les plantations de l'ile Maurice. Took a long time for me to read but thoroughly enjoyed it - though was slightly disappointed by the last 50 pages though I think this is because they were building up to the next book which I can't wait for.
