After practicing with his family, watching dance videos, and being encouraged by family members, Kai develops a greater sense of self confidence and dances all by himself.

I recommend this book because it touches on feelings of belonging and self confidence in a fun and sweet way. Students may be interested in this book because of the bright, engaging pictures and the topic being about dance and family members. Teachers can use this book for instruction by allowing students to express themselves by showing off their own unique dance moves, having a conversation about times when they felt similar to Kai and how to uplift someone else (or themselves) who is feeling insecure. Black/ African American dance, language, and celebration cultures are represented in this book!
