This is a story about cultural difference and acceptance. The main character points out that her eyes are different than the children around her, but just like her mother’s, grandmother’s, and little sister’s. This book introduces terms, words, names which are of their Asian culture and heritage. The imagery and illustrations which are depicted in the book play upon their cultural love and knowledge as well. This would be a great book to share around cultural holidays, like Chinese or Korean new year, if the teacher is noticing comments about difference in the classroom and when wanting to discuss and introduce background and cultural knowledge.
