This book was very personal to me. It allowed me to see that I am not the only one that goes through the feeling of wanting to start wearing the hijab and constantly looking out for those who wear it. The Proudest Blue is a book by Ibtihaj Muhammad who is a female Olympic medalist who wears a hijab “head scarf”. The story follows a Muslim girl who wears a head scarf and goes to school. Friends at her school make fun of her. She does not seem to be bothered as she remembers her mom’s wise words. A great book to use in the classroom as it teaches children about a different culture. It is also a great read to teach children about acceptance. I recommend this book.
