Julián Is a Mermaid written and illustrated by Jessica Love is a 2019 winner of the Stonewall Book Award. The beautifully designed book follows Julian, who upon seeing a few spectacularly dressed ladies on the subway decides he too wants to be a mermaid. He gives himself a curtain tail and used ferns as long flowing hair and applies lipstick, his abuela is supportive and gives him pearls to show off on the town.
