This text is about a young boy name Bao Phi goes fishing in pond in Minneapolis with his father. Unlike others, Bao and his father fish for food for their family, not for fun. As they are fishing, his father tells Bao a story about the different pond that he fished back in Vietnam.

This book first came to my attention when our professor mentioned it to us in class, I thought that maybe I should give it a look at and when I did I was not disappointed. The story is of a young boy and his father going fishing at a pond to catch some food for dinner that night. Along the way the father mentions that he used to fish at a pond like this back in his home country. The story continues on and finished with the family A Different Pond

This book first came to my attention when our professor mentioned it to us in class, I thought that maybe I should give it a look at and when I did I was not disappointed. The story is of a young boy and his father going fishing at a pond to catch some food for dinner that night. Along the way the father mentions that he used to fish at a pond like this back in his home country. The story continues on and finished with the family eating very well that night with what was caught that early morning.
The book was a 2018 Caldecott Honor book. This book does an amazing job at bringing into the story of different cultures, it has some sadness to it as well and the reader would most likely notice the hardships in the story as well, which is a great way to show that not all humans live the same way in America. Many of the students within the class could possibly relate to the story as some of their parents may have to have more than one job as well to make ends meet. This would be a great book to use also to bring into play different countries and cultures in the world as the father is not from America. The book does a great job to show that Vietnamese people are important enough to be placed within a book as the main character. Many young children think that only blonde hair, blue eyed, American people can be the main characters of the book when really anyone can be. So this could be a great way to show those students within the classroom that anyone can be the main character in a story and different cultures are just as important as American ones are. This book could also be of great use to those with disabilities due to the fact that the pictures are the main part of each page and you can really almost read the story a bit just through the pictures. This would be a great read allowed as it is a nice, heartfelt story, with not too many words on each page, therefore it would be easier to keep the kids attention then if it were to have a lot of words on each page.
