What Members Thought

There are quite a few meaningful observations on life and death and beautifully worded descriptions in this book. But rather than occurring in third person narration (or from the mouth of Peter Van Housen, the only other place they could belong) they occur in the first person of a sixteen year old girl or in dialogue with her teenage friends, with the result that none of the characters in this book talk like actual human beings, let alone teenagers.

Second time reading this book and I still have no idea how to write a review for it. My feelings are scathered all over the place and if it's possible, I cried even more than the first time reading it. I totally knew how it's going to end but it didn't help. I still cried like a baby.

The Fault in our Stars is a young adult novel about two teenagers in who meet in a cancer support group. It’s a story about love, friendship, books and cancer.
Hazel had thyroid cancer that spread to her lungs, but she has been able to manage her tumors with a miracle drug. Augustus is a teenager who is wise beyond his years. He had “a touch of osteocarcinoma” three years ago and is currently in remission. Hazel and Gus become friends and they decide to read each other’s favorite books. Her favor ...more

This book just blew me away.
When you read books about kids with cancer, it's almost always the same--a list, finishing the list, and then dying a bittersweet death at the end--but this book was so different.
For one, Hazel's not the only one with cancer. Almost everyone she knows has cancer, and that's because her parents force her to go to a support group for cancer survivors.
For another, there wasn't a slow flower-blooming romance that only appears at the end a short while before the death; it ...more

I Love this Book! Seriously I actually cried during it, and I never cry during books I get really emotional but I don't cry. The simple fact that I cried says a lot. I read this entire book yesterday I was up until eleven o'clock finishing it and it was so wonderful. The entire first half I couldn't stop smiling and it seemed so perfect and happy and then two-thirds through it gets so sad I just cry. I won't sp ...more

"The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars / But in ourselves."
I crossed my fingers that the widely proclaimed best seller, 'The Fault in our Stars,' wouldn't disappoint. And it didn't.
I've heard from many people of its somewhat cheesy plot and its stereotypical circumstance of cancer affected characters, which led them to view the novel as somehow disappointing. Others finished describing a gaping hole of sadness engulfing them.
