Yalena heads back to Sitia to be reunited with the family she does not even remember. While her parents and sister are welcoming, her older brother Leif remains distant and suspicious of her sudden return. She is there to study and improve her magical skills. Of course, she meets the heir to Ixia's throne - all of his family who had been killed by Valek - and learns of his ambition to take back the throne with an army he cannot seem to gather.

4.5 again. I love this series!!
My concern with this book was the way Valek seemed to undergo a personality shift. I mean, now that he's official about his love for Yelena, I understand that he'd be more open, softer, and a little different than he seemed in the first.
But it felt like he was a new character. His actions and dialogue were quite out of character. He was a lot more mushy, and very very cocky! It was driving me nuts! I thought he was overall less swoon-able. I still love him though ...more

OH, I loved this book...I can't really remember why now but it had something to do with a strong woman(young woman)character and finding herself. Now I can see if I can get the next in the series. Thanks Kelly!

Loved, loved, loved this book! The first one was really good, but this one was even better! I love her family and the way Maria V. Snyder sets the book up. Very worth my, and anyone else's, time.
