I was so worried that this would not be able to live up to To Kill A Mockingbird but I was so very wrong to doubt the talent of Harper Lee. This takes place about twenty yers after the events of Mockingbird and finds Scout all grown up and living in New York. I won't go into all of the controversy surrounding the novel. Just let me say that I found it to be a tale of a women come home after a long absence who has to view her family and friends from an adult's, rather than a child's perspective.

Yes, there is racism, yes, it can be hard to read, but I think it was necessary for Scout to grow even further as a person. If you live, eat, and breathe, To Kill A Mockingbird, you may not like the route this tale takes, but if you can look at is as a window i ...more

Hmm. Little bits of this were excellent but a lot of it just seemed dull, muddled, and disjointed. It didn't do much at all for me until about a third of the way through, and I struggled to finish it. It's definitely not in the same league as To Kill a Mockingbird. It read like a draft of an unfinished book that needs a lot of work, which is basically what it is as far as I can gather. ...more
