It's clear I'm in a tiny minority here, but I really didn't like this book at all. I gave it 2 stars rather than just one because, once in a while, there were moments. But not enough of them, so the best I can say for the book was that it was a quick read. There were many intense or disturbing incideents, and several uplifting ones. But in my opinion, it didn't all fit into a meaningful whole.

I've literally just finished and am finding it hard to decide how I feel about it. All the way through I found it desperately bleak and every night it disturbed my sleep. At the same time there was a lot of humanity to it, patience and gentleness.
Very, very interesting and hopefully not a true vision of the future as I'm not sure I'd have the strength of either the father or the son.
This one will leave me something to think about for a goodly while. ...more

This was actually a great book club book, because the opinions of the book were all over the map, so the discussion was lively. Love, hate and in between. I fell in the in-between category - I found the writing style interesting and I generally like the post apocalyptic genre, but when I finished, my only thought was "well, that's done." I didn't find myself pondering themes or considering ideas that were raised, and that seemed like the sort of book that should have left me thinking. ...more
