I felt like this was just too long, and it didn't need to be. There was a lot of extraneous filler that wasn't important to the storyline in my opinion.
I felt like it didn't become a story to me until the end, but by that time, I was so done with it, I couldn't even be into it.

I want back the approximately 20 hours I spent reading and listening to this book. (Bless the audiobook narrator, though. I think I would have given up by 500 pages, if not for Simon Prebble trying his damndest to give this story some life.)

I came back to this book twice and tried to read it and even tried to listen to the audio. I got about a third of the way through, finally, and just couldn't do it.
It is slow paced, with little action and I just couldn't care about the characters.
Maybe somebody else's cup of tea, but not mine.

Strange book. Hard to grasp at first. The beginning was tough but towards the middle I was enjoying it. Not best book I've read but was good.
