I didn't get attached to the main characters and was not into the whole story but more like OK that happened OK OK OK ... the end
That what you call an OK story, not my kind of story though, it has to be more than an OK for me to like, i'm sorry this didn't get my interest, i was really eager to read this book but it was not what i expected.

I'm sure somewhere a Chinese lady is exclaiming the inaccuracies of this book, much as I would exclaim the deficiencies of every piece of Appalachian Lit to come out of the Local Color Movement of the 19th century. But, as someone who knows nothing about Chinese history, culture, etc., I found this to be a very captivating, heart wrenching piece. I've learned that it takes WAAAAYYYY longer for me to listen to a book than it does for me to read one LOL

This was good, but a bit on the sad side for me. I appreciated the detail and research that went into this.

This had me feeling all the feels. I found myself yearning for my own laotong, longing, like Lily, for that kind of deep devotion and love. Over the years I’ve feigned that kind of connection with friends, holding on to friendships that had, as described by others, long since served their purpose. That is me though, loyal to a fault. What Lily and Snowflower had was real.

Lilly suffers the pain of having her feet bound so she will be able to have a marriage that will bring her station and wealth. She finds that there is a much higher price to pay.

A very touching and interesting story about Chinese customs.
