Regardless of what you think about Philippa Gregory, she is a great storyteller, and this book did not disappoint. I know that she is not long on historical accuracy, I know that she embellishes and invents. I also know that this story was a page turner from beginning to end.

This book is the story of the demise of Katherine of Aragon as Queen of England, and the rise of Anne Boleyn, as told through the voice of Anne's sister Mary. It is a story fraught with romance, lust, political intrigue....

I can honestly say that I am not a big history buff. My extent of reading about history can be summed up with Egyptian history and the history of the civilization of men. I started this book not expecting much and to my surprise was very pleasantly surprised. The suspense, the rich choice of vocabulary, the perfect protrayel of human nature, all mixed up with honest-to-God real-life history makes this book a thrill to read.

I will be reading lots and lots of Ms. Gregory's other works :)

First off, this is not a happy book. However, it is very captivating with interesting characters. Gregory creates a vivid picture of life in the English courts that makes the long book worth the effort. Even though Anne was a terrible person I still found myself feeling sorry for her at the end. My only complaint was that I failed to understand why Mary and George constantly helped her when she obviously was only interested in her own future. Still it was a good book. I give it a B-.

Overall I really liked this book. I love the never ending trill of not knowing what will happen next. I also think the book was an easy read and a fun read. I would have loved to have known how Anne and her family lived the rest of their lives.
