I am torn by this book, following the release of the film (which I'm yet to see) and it being described as one of the best re-workings of the vampire legend in the past decade I had quite high expectations. When I started reading I was disappointed as it was not the vamp-fest I thought it was going to be but then as the story progressed I enjoyed it more and more. Received as a giveaway from Goodreads. I'm not usually much of a horror fan, but the blurb on the giveaway page sounded intriguing.
After reading some of the teasers on the back cover and some of the reviews, I expected a lot more from this book.
It wasn't a bad story, but I found most of the characters completely unsympathetic. Reading portions of it were painful, as there was no likable character in the book with the possible exception of Eli, who of course was the vampire.
