A historical adventure set in Scotland in the mid 18th century.
I was disappointed by this. Some people describe it as Stevenson's best book but I thought Treasure Island was much better. It starts well but nothing much happens in the middle and the ending is an anticlimax.

This particular edition had beautiful illustrations that really added to the 19th-century feel of the book. Like many people, I'd known about this classic, but hadn't ever read it. I found some of the dialogue a bit difficult, but I think that's because it was authentic, and language has changed since then. Some of the attitudes (about landed gentry) seem a bit bizarre today as well. But Stevenson's storytelling is masterful, and he brings protagonist David Balfour and the other characters to li
