I seldom read a book and like the movie more (it's usually the other way around) but this is a case where I liked the book and loved the movie, which made the book come alive even more. Kudos to Ms. Paterson for writing a story that makes the reader feel what the characters feel, and that also lends itself so wonderfully to visual imagery. ...more

A large number of readers have shelved this as fantasy, but I just don't see it. I read this in one afternoon as it is a very small book and I found to be a very sweet story if not a sad one at the end. I liked the characters, especially May Belle who I found quite funny. I read this book in school around the same time that My Girl was released. I was already aquainted with death but this was the first time I realized that children could also die. I remember crying in the middle of class and then getting mad at Jesse for the way he treated his sister. Wonderful book.
