This was such an incredible picture book (or graphic novel) that I have trouble imagining another one that can create the same effect in me. I appreciate the creator's care in referencing photos of Ellis Island immigrants and others to mix realism with the fantastical in this wordless story. The effect is one of continuous disorientation that will surely be felt regardless of the reader's culture or background, effectively conveying the disorientation of being an immigrant of a new land. A story of immigration beautifully drawn entirely in pictures- strange and surreal. One I will want to read several times to fully appreciate the deep meaning.
