Neil Gaiman is a truly talented writer. I had heard so much about this book before I started it, including an interview with Gaiman himself, that I had high hopes. I was not disappointed. The depth and complexity of this novel made it a pleasure to read, but it was still a page turner. Shadow is a fantastic hero - he made me think of a flawed Jack Reacher. I loved how he took everything that happened i his stride, calmly and without question - meeting Wednesday and discovering he was a god, the

Shadow is released from jail after finding out that his wife had died in a car accident. Soon he is offered a job from a mysterious man, Mr. Wednesday. Thus begins a magical roadtrip through middle America and dying mythology. I really enjoyed reading this book. I find all the different gods and mythology very interesting and I could tell that Gaiman did a lot of research. After reading the book, I am interested in finding more information on a lot of the gods and characters that made an appeara

The first audio book I've ever listened to. Whilst it is a very interesting experience I kept falling asleep!
I do love the story, I believe Neil Gaiman is a very good story weaver. A very interesting mixture of mythologies and the modern world. I think I'm going to have to pick up the book one day to enjoy the story properly or at least I have to perfect my listening skill :) ...more

Really enjoyed this crazy journey of life, death and places in between. This book brings together loyalty and sacrifice, coin tricks and mythology, and explores what happens to Gods when people stop believing in them or move away from their homelands. And so much more. I haven't read anything by Gaiman before, but will be on the lookout for some of his other work.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and their personalities. I spent a lot of time trying to connect the gods with the characters in the story, which was why I found this book so fun.
It is one of those books that can feel a bit disjointed at first. It kind of gives you the pieces and the slowly it all begins to form a complete picture.

This is one of those books I walked away from thinking, "What the hell was that?" I can't say that I liked it, I can't say that I didn't, I can just say that I am glad I read it and put it straight into my 'to re-read' stack.
Shadow is a big man with a good heart inside and darkness surrounding him. He gets out of prison and is immediately embroiled in a war between the old gods and the new. His wife dead and his future in tatters he walks through events without much care about their outcome. He ...more

A fantastic concept for a story, and it's wonderful how it all unfolds and is revealed slowly. It's interesting how it prompts thoughts about beliefs, how they have changed, and what now fills the spaces that religion used to.

I've just reread this and I can't believe that I'd forgotten the ending! Still good though! ...more
