Shelves: fantasy, retellings
I had remembered very little of this from the first time I read it. I did enjoy it, although I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. I think it was probably too long, but it hits a lot of the spots about America and religion that I really like.

Of all of Neil Gaiman's books, I think this one most encapsulates his strengths and his weaknesses, which is that everything-- the plot, the setting, all the characters-- are just concepts. Like one day he thought "hey, what if old gods walked the earth
