To be honest, I'm sitll in withdrawal from The Scholomance trilogy and this one sounds somewhat similar (dark academia) with DRAGONS! I mean that blurb by Jennifer L. Armentrout at the top of the book cover about "grumpy dragons" is what really got me. I'm not a fan of enemies-to-lovers trope but this one wasn't too bad; you didn't feel it so much because there wasn't actually that personal hatred/anger against each other that I really hate. Violet Sorrengail has trained all her life to become a scribe (scholar) but after the death of her father Violet's mother is determined Violet will become a dragon rider. The problem is Violet is frail and has joint problems. The rider shcool is deadly, many people die just on the entrance test, but Violet manages to make it with a little help from her rider sister. This book is hot garbage walking. Writers can produce good books for a younger audience without dipping to this level of thinly clad romance writing and terrible foreshadowing. I rate this book as one star - which is one too many.

I would not have thought I would have a blast reading about people being casually snuffed or burnt to a crisp. Lots of call back for better or worse to the Dragonriders of Pern series.
