In a sense, this was the best book in the trilogy. It was dark, gritty, horrific and thought provoking, managing to remind us of important lessons from our history: that war is not a game, that in a war any atrocity can be justified if it brings victory, that there’s no glory in killing innocent people, that the faces of a revolution/movement can outlive their usefulness (see Che Guevara or Malcom X), how revolutions sometimes are as bad as what came before (see Russia and Cuba) or ...more

I enjoy reading YA books but not a lot of them had me sitting and thinking about the story long after I finish. This one is one of the few that did that to me.
I read the first book many years ago and whilst I liked the premise of the games, I found the parts where Katniss talked about Gale & Peeta to be too waffling and too much. Hence I decided not to read the sequels.

The ending could have been far better, but all in all this was pretty good.

I have to give the author credit for an incredible, fast-moving plotline that makes this entire series addictive. However, ultimately, despite my rapid-fire reading, I felt as if the series was missing a lot. The characters were not very deep, I didn't care about the love triangle, and the ending is so pessimistic and blah that I feel as if there was no real arc or development to the stories or the characters.

A good finale to the Hunger Games trilogy. This book focuses on the rebel battle and how Peeta is treated after being taken by the capital. Katniss develops well as the mockingjay. I think the author did a really good job at depicting grief. I really liked the ending and thought it fit well with the series.
