Apparently against the trend on this site, I liked this one better than the other 2 books in this series. It probably helped to read it out of sequence, and to have no preconceived idea of it following any logical connection to the others, apart from one character who doesn't have a huge part to play in this one. Good story. Interesting characters. Strange setting.

I couldn't figure out why Kristin Cashore didn't write a proper sequel to Graceling as her second book. What was she thinking? I wanted to know more about what happened with Katsa, Po, and Bitterblue! I was especially confused when I learned who the ONE cross-over character was going to be! I certainly wasn't interested in learning anything about HIS backstory. Why would she write this book? Did I really want to read it?
