I surprised myself with how much I enjoyed the story. As others have said, there were obvious holes in the story, and it's loaded with one cliche after another. And I didn't even mind the classroom scenes (for the most part, anyway). I loved Bernie Kosar, and knew that he was no ordinary dog, but was surprised that it took John so long to figure it out (if your dog entered the woods on one side, and almost immediately came out on the other side, wouldn't you wonder just a bit?!) Another book that I thought I would not like but which ended up engaging me more than i expected. I read this book in one day! This is a story of discovery of one's own gifts, maturing into those gifts, and building relationships. It is a soul satisfying book that leaves the reader waiting eagerly for the next book - the next chapter in the life of Four. As Henri says "...And when you think all is lost, when all is dire and bleak, there is always hope."
