This was basically a dialogue-intensive procedural, and not exactly crackling dialogue either, so I found myself doing a lot of "Oh god, someone else is talking now—make him stop!" There were some interesting ideas here, and I liked/respected that Scalzi wrote without (view spoiler) but I just wasn't gripped by the story. ...more

more like 3.5...everyone raves about Lock In but it def. took me a bit of time to get into it...the audiobook I listened to have Wil Wheton as the narrator. It also had a short story at the end about the history of Hayden's disease...I almost wish he had incorporated some more of that into Lock In - I found it more intriguing ...more

I have started this review three times. I find it difficult to describe. Scalzi has created a society altered by a bacterial flu like disease. This is both a crime drama and a dystopian novel. For me this creates a difficulty in capturing all the nuances but i can see this making a fabulous series.
