I don't know what I expected this book to be, but whatever it was, I was wrong. It packs quite a lot into a short, quick book.
The narration jumps back and forth between the first-person story of Adam on a bike ride, trying to get somewhere to see his father, and transcripts of Adam's session with someone who might be a doctor helping Adam recover repressed memories. As the bike ride and the sessions proceed, the reader is able gradually to piece them together and unravel what's going on. ...more

I vividly remember reading this in fifth grade and being completely blown away by it. I am going to re-read it soon because I just finished The Chocolate War and want to re-read this one as an adult.

I read this in junior high but don't think I ever finished it. When I read it a few years ago I was totally surprised by the plot twist at the end so I must not have finished it. A boy sets out on his bike to find his father and realizes that nothing in his life is as it seems.
