i enjoyed this new version of odysseus and Penelope. Told through the eyes of penelope and her 12 maids it was pact and easy to read
Even on a second read this book is fresh and interesting. Attwood throws almost all writing styles into the melting pot of this book and it works. She has a foot in 2 courts describing events from centuries past in a modern thought provoking way. What would Odysseus's story have sounded like from Penelope's point of view? With Atwood's help, Penelope speaks from the grave to tell us. Her 12 favorite maids join in, in Greek-chorus style. This is a marvelously tongue-in-cheek rewriting of the old myth, including side comments about "cousin Helen" (of Troy).
