A medical horror-thriller in the style of Get Out. The best parts were the commentaries on race, gender, and class, which were really sharp and biting. Giddings doesn't bother to start you out with something easy, like a primer on Racism 101-- instead she dives straight into the hard stuff. This book asks real, serious questions about what people will do to survive, and for their families to survive. The themes are done really well and resonate well with the story. It started out as a 4 but the second half seemed a bit jumbled together. I liked the writing style and the premise but it could’ve been executed better.
