For some reason it took me a little while to get into this book but once I did I thoroughly enjoyed it. It combines the mundane everyday things with a bit of myth and magic and follows (no longer) Fat Charlie as he discovers who his dad really was, gets to know his brother and finds that all is not quite as it seems. And in the process his entire life gets turned upside down then right side up again. Once I got into the story I really enjoyed this and found a strange kinship with Fat Charlie as ...more

Fat Charlie's father died. Then he found out that he actually has a brother. And that both his brother and father are more than what they seem. When he met his brother though, his life went to the dogs and when he tried to get his life back, things didn't go as planned. Along this journey, he found the truth about himself.

First Charles Nancy (Fat Charlie) found out his father had died while at a karaoke club in Florida, then he learned he had a brother named Spider. Getting to know each other was interesting enough, without Spiders sudden inter ...more

I think it was because there weren't any real likable characters and the brother's attitude was terrible. It draws from the Anansi the Spider stories I remember from being a kid which did keep me reading, but I still felt like nothing was learned by the characters, which may have been t

Very enjoyable book. The characters were wonderful, complex and likeable. The story was random, jumping to unexpected places and occasionally had me laughing out loud.
