I often give books a rating of 3 stars; this rates a high three for me, but not quite high enough to deserve four. The granddaughter, Elsa, is precocious and enchanting. The adventure she embarks on after her grandmother dies is improbable for a seven-year-old, but nonetheless fascinating. And the things Elsa learns as she learns more about her grandmother might hold lessons for all of us about the line between fantasy and reality.
