Ann Patchett makes you feel this book intensely. I don't cry easily, but this story had me tearing up more than once. It's not the first time Patchett's writing has made me emotional, as she is a master at writing characters and storylines to grab your heart. I was so invested in the sister and brother protagonists that I had to keep reading to see what their futures held, finally realizing that all I could do was read this book through to the end. Powerful! It's no surprise that it was listed a

Man, i think i wrote and erased the first sentence of this review 10 times. I really wanted to love this book. It is hard for me to put on to paper what it was that kept me from loving it though. I liked the main characters. Danny and Maeve were a strong pair and one cannot help but give props to the strength that Maeve had in the face of all that happened.

I listened to this one. Lush descriptions, poignant story, I couldn't put it down. Also, Tom Hanks narrates. Nothing to hate.

Looking at all the 5 and 4 star reviews on here, I wonder if I had read the same book. I found it, not surpisingly, to be a story of a family, and a house which is really a character in its own right. The siblings at the heart of the story are bound to each other and the house, and are well drawn. However I found the wicked stepmother to be a little too wicked, and the protracted problem with the house and eventual return of a pivotal character to be overdone. So I finished it but it's only 3 st

The Dutch House is about a pair of siblings and the house that has always loomed large in their life. I listened to the audiobook and Tom Hanks did an excellent job reading this book. Danny and Maeve were characters that I found myself constantly rooting for despite their flaws. The one theme that I took away from the book was the power of forgiveness and how moving forward people that did unforgivable things can later have a positive influence if you allow them to. It was an interesting story t
