I never know whether to give 4 or 5 stars, but today I'm generous.
Wolf Hall is a brilliant novel. Is all historical fiction like this? Somehow I doubt it. Mantell's interest lies not in period accuracy (although I'm sure it is) or historical glorification, but in the workings of human beings in a tumultuous period. By using present tense narrative, she thrusts us right into the machinations of 1530s Tudor England.
