Another great Inspector Gamache read. Armand Gamache's growing connection with the wonderful people (oops, characters, easy to forget) of Three Pines and the joys and sorrows of all the characters is as absorbing as the murders which must be solved. I think I'd even go 4.5 stars on this one. I am so in love with Chief Inspector Gamache! I don't know how Louise Penny creates such an engaging cast of characters and such an idyllic village - I would really move to Three Pines if it weren't fictional. And yet, at the same time, the writing is so real in capturing emotions and motivations. There's philosophy and art and poetry among the murder and mayhem. Another fantastic book by Louise Penny. She is a contemporary Agatha Christie in my mind. Penny doesn't rely on the normal tricks of the current day mysteries...her writing is clever, subtle and thoughtful; she really makes the town and its inhabitants come to life. I look forward to reading the next book in this series, hopefully I can get caught up before a new book comes out.
