It may have taken me 18 years to finally sit down and read Harry Potter, but it was worth the wait. I thoroughly enjoyed this, both for myself and in delicious anticipation of being able to read it to my children when they are old enough. Perhaps some of the magic was taken away because I had seen the film of this, the first Harry Potter, but I am so pleased I haven't seen all of the films so some of the later books are really going to be a surprise. I don't really know what I can say about this. I acknowledge that this book is highly regarded by many, but I would not have picked this up if it weren't for a school assignment. Yes, I read this one for school. It was to argue for or against this book meeting classic criteria for becoming a classic.

I really enjoyed this, but I was not in love with it as I thought I would be. It was a fun ride and I appriciated the extra details (absent in the movie), especially the beginning of the novel. I think the scenes were of his living condition and his family were much more apalling in my mind (compared to the movie). I am not sure if watching the movie first affected my response to the novel, but I found that I enjoyed the parts of the book that I liked in the movie. I look forward to reading more

OK, so I like these stories written for children. I am really susceptible to curling up on the couch with a good story for fun! It takes me back to good times as a child. Or perhaps I never got enough of good stories.
