What Members Thought
One of my favourite Dickenses. This one is right up there with Bleak House, for me. Even though it's long, it doesn't wander like some of his others. The plot justifies the length, following David from birth through the vicissitudes of life to success as an author (it's the closest to an autobiographical novel that Dickens wrote).

When I was in highs school, all those years ago, I went on a Charles Dickens kick and read everything I could get my hands on. Although I read Great Expectations first, this was really the book that made me love his writing.
People in dire circumstances and these strange quirky characters with the bit of romance thrown in were so appealing to my adolescent mind.

I'm learning that I like Dickens MUCH better as audiobooks than actually reading them... Very entertaining. I see now why it's a classic. Also, Dickens has a sense of humor with his naming of characters: Uriah Heap = u r a heap. Most appropriate.
