This follows on from the epic cliff hanger at the end of The Six Sacred Stones and finds Jack West Jr continuing his global quest to set up and trigger the Machine in order to save the world from the apocalypse. In the process he has to battle not only ancient families, evil dictators and time itself but also his estranged father who is fighting to obtain the powers and gifts of the pillars and use them to rule the world (he is not a nice man). The final chapter (I hope) of the Jack West Jr series. I thought the first two books in the series were implausible, but then I hadn't read the Five Greatest Warriors yet. It felt like Matthew Reilly had simply tried to come up with the most ridiculous scenarios he could and put them all in this book. And of course people survive the most unsurvivable situations without a scratch.
