This is the story of a man born in the gutter in 18th-century Paris with two peculiarities: a hypersensitive sense of smell and a lack of personal odour that makes people distrust and avoid him without knowing why. He develops the ability to create wonderful perfumes but never manages to become like other people.
This book took me by surprise. I expected a crime novel, and it really isn't. There is murder but it is just a means to an end for him.

OMG. What can I say. Well written yet repulsive. Completely utterly repulsive.
And very very long.
I can't say I'm glad that I read it, yet I still can't say that I definitely wish I hadn't.
I completely ignored Chapter 38, that's where I drew the line and skipped to 39. (For those that know me they would know why.)
