What Members Thought

Well written, grabs the reader and makes them wish they knew more, knew what to do, how to help. To me this book read like a work of non-fiction. It seemed so real. Thank god it isn't.
So what can I sat other then I am saddened. I feel for the Lisbon girls, I feel for the boys who wanted so desperately to save them, to love them. I feel for the parents but at the same time I place on them a lot of the blame. I blame them for not trying hard enough and for trying too hard.

What a sad existence this family led. I was going to write that the sisters had a sad existence but I changed my mind to include the whole family. Everyone knows that one family who had a religious zealot (or so it seemed) running the lives of the others, but I could hardly imagine living that life. The neighbourhood boys wanted nothing more to save these sisters, to get to know them better. Even years later they still couldn't fathom the whys of their deaths. I can't believe it took me so long

I didn't really get all the hype about this book, maybe I took it too literally. I thought the way of using the neighborhood boys to tell the story of the sisters' suicides was interesting but I really would have liked more insight from the girls themselves.
