Det virker som om noen ting er viktig kun i barndommen. Jeg kan huske Marco Polo som noe vi snakket mye om på barneskolen, eller kanskje jeg bare ble ekstra fascinert den ene timen vi brukte på ham og tenkte mye på det, men hvor ofte har jeg tenkt på ham siden det? Kanskje et par ganger. Nå har jeg lyst til å lese mer om reisene hans.

An immensely dense and poetic novel about imaginary cities. Perhaps a little too dense for me, as much as I hate to admit it. I read it rather quickly for class, but do plan to reread it in the future--slowly, leisurely, to absorb the descriptions more fully.

Marco Polo, visiting the emperor Kublai Khan, describes to him a series of weird and wonderful cities. This was a quick read for me and I enjoyed it, but I suspect I missed some philosophical depth. I would probably enjoy reading it again.
