Very strong beginning and ending, great main character, cool magic system. Vin is the best part here, but all the characters are pretty well done. I actually really liked her relationship with Elend as well, which often seems to be the area where authors will fall flat, and Sanderson does a fantastic job of slowing bringing her out of her shell. I also really liked the complexity of the magic system and the amount of explanation we get about it, although at times I really needed a glossary or so

My husband has been trying to get me to read Brandon Sanderson for years. I finally got around to it, and I am so glad I did.
The world building in The Final Empire is fantastic.
The story was good, I figured out where it was headed without feeling cheated out of the build up.
I will definitely be checking out the rest of this series, and probably more of his work.

I'm giving up on this book. I've been trying to read this for a year and I realized that I am just not invested enough to complete this story. There's something about the way it's written that just feels like I've been here before. I don't like Vin. She's a boring and predictable character. I like Kelsier and I really want to know what happens to his plan but I'm just going to Google it. It's not worth me spending the next few months slogging through this. DNF.
