Librivox can be hit or miss, but this version (read by Nick Bulka) is excellent. Mr. Bulka did a truly professional quality job with the book, complete with certain singing passages and characterizations for the different voices. Overall, the book is a wonderful period piece that feels fresh even 135 years later. Very enjoyable British humor and humor of the A Confederacy of Dunces anti-hero sort. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that a book written during Victorian times was actually laugh-out-loud funny. It is not a serious work - Jerome K. Jerome rather embodies the earliest hysterical version of Murphy's law.

I did something very bad. I read this book while my kid was watching Pocoyo and realised that the background music actually fitted perfectly. Now I can't even look at this book without getting the Pocoyo music stuck in my head. But hey, it REALLY works. (You're welcome for that earworm) :) ...more

Some of the stories were definitely worth a nice laugh, including the Uncle Podger chapter, washing George's shirt, and the proper amount of a fox-terrier's original sin but most of the writings were pretty full of dated humor. The author would go on for a while with a story and the punchline wasn't that humourous or insightful as it had been in the later part of the Victorian era.

Also the format of the book is a bit of a mess as well; it seems that it was supposed to have been a travelogue so
