Despite reading criticisms, I still like the stories of Anita Shreve. A more thorough review coming up! Whew! If only I could write book reviews as fast as I can finish reading books.

REVIEW UPDATE:
I have read two of Anita Shreve’s novels, the first one was The Pilot’s Wife, the story of which I can vaguely remember except that the rating I gave it on Goodreads was 4 stars, which means that I might have fairly enjoyed it. Then I keep seeing some of her books on my favorite books

more like one and a half...if it hadn't been a challenge book I probably would have DNF'd it...thankfully, it only cost me $4 on the hardback sale shelf at borders vice full prince...

I had many issues with it - the first being that there was wayyy to much about the authors political views showing through...I really hate it when I start to read a book and there is a section complaining about a certain section or person in the government...it seemed obvious that she also hadn't done a lot of resea

This is the third Anita Shreve book I have read and so far my favourite. Anita Shreve has a distinct way of writing, there isn't alot of action, its more feelings, emotions and descriptions - but it is the descriptions brilliantly executed that tell the story - the style takes getting used too but once you have overcome that you are in for a satisfying read. The story had enough twists to keep me guessing and I didn't see most of them coming, it is very American in style but that isn't a bad thi ...more

This was a surprisingly enjoyable story that follows once divorced and once widowed Sydney as she rebuilds her life after the sudden loss of her second husband. As she's looking for peace and working to rediscover her focus, she takes on the role as a live in tutor for an young woman and her wealthy family. A family that has some interesting dynamics that she finds herself embroiled in, despite her best efforts. Shreve weaves and excellent story and while it's not what I would normally read, I t ...more

Another discovery of a new author. Steady, enjoyable pace. Complex web of emotions woven painstakingly. Engaging and honest
Blue Eyed Vixen
Anita Shreve weaves a charming tale about inter-relationships, as Sydney, who is recovering from the end of a second relationship, takes on a summer job with the family of an intellectually disabled woman. The introduction of the girls two brothers, who both compete for Sydney's attentions, delves into the ensuing emotional turmoil which results as consequence.

I was incredibly disapointed in this book. I had such high hopes for Anita Shreve after loving The Pilot's Wife years ago. This book had zero plot line. The main character was unlikeable and acted in unbelievable ways. I didn't believe that that was actually the way a 29 year old who had already lost 2 husbands who act/react. It was a mercifully short read. ...more
