Update: I'm still really torn. On the one hand I feel like I should give this one star but the sentimental side of me won't allow it. What I'd really like to do is leave the stars part blank and just write how I feel-does goodreads allow that? Ok, apparently it does.

I reread To Kill a Mockingbird prior to reading Go Set a Watchman, and I'm not sure if that was a good move or not. Mockingbird is a special, wonderful book and Watchman feels like it was written by a totally different person. There was a lot of sermonizing and limited plot. The richness of the characters just weren't there in the same way.

So this was an interesting book.
I do not think it was Harper Lee's intention to ever publish it and I think she was horribly taken advantage of in her age and mental decline. But since it is out there anyway, I did read it. (For free, from the library because I don't want anyone profiting off of her exploitation).
One should only read this if they are really serious about literature and the process of writing. This is clearly NOT a sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird, but a very rough draft. It was ...more
