I knew all along this wasn't the "real diary of a teenager" that it was advertised to be, so that probably coloured my view, but I think I would have found it unconvincing anyway. Beatrice Sparks, who wrote it, was a youth counsellor so she may have known teenagers who had some similar experiences to this, but she didn't seem to understand that drugs are not all the same. People don't get hooked on all drugs together, as if they were like different alcoholic drinks. They're as unlike each other ...more

Being that this is a "classic" and quite a few people seem to like it, I decided I should read it.

Maybe if I had read this when I was younger I would have liked it. I really thought it was going to be more "horrifying." But it was mostly blah, and not very believable as an "actual diary." After reading a few pages you can tell that it wasn't an actual diary of a 15 year old.
