I knew all along this wasn't the "real diary of a teenager" that it was advertised to be, so that probably coloured my view, but I think I would have found it unconvincing anyway. Beatrice Sparks, who wrote it, was a youth counsellor so she may have known teenagers who had some similar experiences to this, but she didn't seem to understand that drugs are not all the same. People don't get hooked on all drugs together, as if they were like different alcoholic drinks. They're as unlike each other

People love this book. They praise it and adore it and share it.
I know that this is a story about a real girl. I know all the reasons why I should like it. But I just didn't.
I don't want to sound ignorant or superficial, but I didn't feel good when reading it. I didn't feel anything in my heart or mind, and so what good would reading it do me?
As you read, you watch Alice fall deeper and deeper into this pit, and I don't enjoy that. It's like watching it happen to a friend; I don't want to wat ...more

Very good. It's a diary where the girl is on a crazy diet. It was ok 4 stars

Nothing more than a sensationalist, probably fake, badly-written diary.
This story was very disturbing. I can see why it was banned, but it may have helped troubled kids to have read someone else's problems. Overall, a pretty good read.
