Not a comfortable read, as always with Ian McEwan, but I really suffered for these characters. Sometimes with his books I just admire the writing because I couldn't care what happens. Not this time!

Okay what a totally squirmy read. I mean it was really uncomfortable to read these pages, and ultimately very sad. So we watch the story unfold between Edward, a 23 year old history student and Florence a 22 year old violinist. Florence has had a middle class upbringing, and there is some weird connection between her and her father that I never really figured out. Love the way he writes. Getting into the minds of his characters, and the way he develops them. Also loved the book's structure, zinging back and forward through the decades.

I'd probably like the written edition better. I found the narrator's voice distracting after awhile.
